Between God and Me

Get brutally honest with God with the questions below. These questions are great to respond to in a journal. Or use them as a way to get you focused during a time of prayer and reflection. See how what you are going through is really no different than what happened during Jesus' times.

Dear God,
I'm such a wimp.
—Me

The scariest thoughts often come when it's dark. That's the perfect time to talk to God about your fears, because they seem bigger. Whether you're afraid of spiders or a bad grade in math, describe it all to God in vivid detail. Ask for courage, but don't be surprised if just sharing it with God makes you feel braver.

More to get you thinking

Dear God,
Is it selfish to ask you for things?
—Me

Praying can become like listing things you want for your birthday, if you don't pray for other people too. Talking to God about your friends' troubles should always be part of your prayer-conversations. Discussing the things your family members need is way important. Praying for people you don't like has to be in there too. There's nothing selfish about that.

Dear God,
I hope things are going to get better.
—Me

Our best hopes and dreams come from God, so who better to talk them over with? This kind of prayer is not about begging for things to come true. It's about simply putting your longings out there so you and God can look at them together. The answer may come as a peaceful knowing that hope makes sense.

Dear God,
I don't even know what to pray about.
—Me

You don't always have to be the one to start the conversation with God. He knows what you two need to talk about, so ask him to show you what that is. Get quiet and listen. Thoughts about your problems and worries may crowd in. Pay attention, because those may be God's topics for your focused time together.
