Melody Carlson's Favorites

In case you ever run into Harbor View author Melody Calson and her dog Bailey out on the trail, we thought we'd prepare you with some quick facts about her favs.
Ice Cream
Okay, the truth is I’m not a huge ice cream fan. Believe it or not, I’m not that into sweets, which is fortunate because I’d probably weigh about 500 pounds if I was. But I do like, on occasion, Mocha Almond Fudge. Yum! In fact, it sounds pretty good right now.
Article of Clothing
I just got these really great Lucchese “cowboy” boots that I cannot wait to wear. They’re a medium warm brown, with really great stitching, semi-pointed toes, not too high heels, and just really cool. As soon as the weather cools down (it’s August now) I will be kicking some dust in them.
Book
I like a lot of books. And at different stages of life I’ve had a variety of favorites. In sixth grade I loved Jack London’s White Fang. I know, go figure. But before that I loved Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books. And Girl of the Limberlost (Gene Stratton Porter) is one of my all time favorites. I didn’t read Anne of Green Gables until I was an adult, but I read every single one of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s books. In fact, Lucy was a great inspiration to me as a writer.
Season
I really like all the seasons and would be sad if I only got to have one. For a year I lived in a tropical country (Papua New Guinea) where it was always summer. And although I had always loved summer, I got sort of tired of it. I love winter, especially where we live—sometimes we have enough snow to cross-country right from our porch to a nearby trail that goes through the National Forest. Right now I’m looking forward to autumn (because it’s the end of summer). I like being able to put on a sweater and take a walk in the woods. And I love spring because it’s like the world is coming back to life again.
Place
To be honest, I love where we live. It’s a cabin-like house in the Ponderosa Pine forest. We have deer, rabbits, squirrels, birds...and it’s very quiet and peaceful. But I also love to travel. Some of my favorite places around the globe include France, Austria, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, and my birthplace San Francisco.
