Got your tickets to Mexico yet? While many families may be beach-bound this spring break, plenty of others are not. For those of us staying closer to home, here are some fun ideas for family activities to make the most of your time together.
Be a local tourist. Why travel miles away when hidden gems of history are within easy driving distance? Find a local historic site or tourist attraction and visit it together as a family or with another mom and her kids. Destinations can range from state parks to a famous person’s historic home to local cheese factory tours or soda bottling shops and so much more.
Take a class. Fun cooking, painting or photography classes and more are often available through local stores, YMCAs, community colleges or other resources. Pick a class the entire family can do together and learn something new!
Serve someone. Find a service project that the whole family can participate in together. Examples might include stocking shelves at a food pantry, sorting through donations at a thrift store, babysitting another family’s children or making Easter cards for nursing home residents. The possibilities are as limitless as your imagination!
Splash and swim. Book an overnight stay at a local waterpark or hotel with a pool or and spend a fun evening swimming, sliding, and pretending summer is not so far away!
Play for free. Take advantage of all the freebies offered throughout town such as free library programs, dog parks, sled hills or coffee shop concerts.
Shop til you drop. Lots of tween girls love to shop. Spring break is a great opportunity to spend some quality parent-daughter time on a special buying spree at the mall or second-hand shops. Choose some spring or summer outfits as a celebration of the season’s change.
However you spend your spring break, be sure to thank God for the gift of family—one of the greatest blessings on earth!
